Occasionally, at twilight-when day gives way to night-the world seems to glow with an inner light. Blues and greens intensify, hovering in that threshold between light and dark. It is within this fleeting, transitional space that Ron Left's LIMEN Series finds its footing.
Working through a refined abstract language, Left explores the intersection of opposites-light and dark, presence and absence, the known and the unknowable. These works occupy a liminal space, echoing those in-between states: waking and dreaming, certainty and ambiguity, the visible and the unseen.
Across the series, structure and openness exist in tension. Grid-like frameworks anchor the compositions, while loose, expanding fields of colour and light push against their boundaries. Forms emerge and recede, hovering in a ghost-like register, while recurring door-like motifs gather at the edges-solid and material, yet suggestive of passage beyond.
"Limen" (pronounced lye-min) translates literally as "threshold" or "door." More broadly, it speaks to moments of transition-between past and present, certainty and uncertainty-where transformation becomes possible.
