ARTIS Gallery is proud to present Into the Light, a solo exhibition by Aroha Gossage. Deeply grounded in her connection to the whenua of Pakiri, north of Auckland, this series of works continues Gossage’s exploration of land, light, and lineage. Her paintings serve as both personal reflections and expressions of ancestral memory, imbued with the values of manaakitanga and the enduring presence of her whānau.
Through her refined handling of pigment and surface—sanding between layers to create a silky, luminous finish—Gossage captures the intangible: memory, atmosphere, wairua. Her work speaks to a deep respect for the land, passed down through generations, and to the ongoing role of her whānau as kaitiaki of Pakiri.
