ANAH DUNSHEATH
Dunsheath is known as an artist relating to popular culture – works of all mediums, with strong form and bold colour and human interaction being an essential component. Visual transformation and optical illusion are the key elements of her practice.
Dunsheath's sculptures are made in the basic medium of mirror finish stainless steel, with an emphasis on illusion. Other mediums are also included on different works such as acrylic, LED lights, etch primer, and lacquer paint. Her sculptures range from free standing works, wall mounted or for display on plinths - to huge outdoor site-specific sculptures.
The most recent paintings by Dunsheath (acrylic on board) reflect Auckland’s current urban landscape.
My work is a wry comment of Auckland's current urban landscape. The 'orangeing' of Auckland - the change and repair, the cost and final effect. We would all like shares in the capital of the 'road cone company' , they multiply daily and have become part of our urban landscape. They are a poor relative to the city's seventy volcanic cones. The scenes are set with early architecture, which are rearranged to suit the composition. Human interaction and body language is observed, creating tension and a narrative for the viewer to complete. Anah Dunsheath.
Anah Dunsheath first exhibited at ARTIS Gallery in 2012.
