A gridded globe forms the head and hands of a boy in this sculpture, creating a figure both contained within and connected to the wider world. The open lattice allows air and surrounding space to become part of the form itself.
The piece suggests an enquiring mind — a young figure engaged in thought, curiosity, and discovery. The globe evokes ideas of knowledge, exploration, and the desire to understand one’s place in the world.
I have long enjoyed astrolabes and cage-like forms that define volume through openness rather than mass. Here, the shell-like structure plays with interior and exterior space, with the void becoming as important as the material itself.
