Collective is a landmark exhibition by Matthew Browne in which he
has refined the physical properties of his earlier paintings to produce
a sophisticated and thoughtful body of new work. Browne has extended the possibilities of his signature
markmaking through the introduction of water colour. The resulting works
on paper are refined and elegant, while retaining the power and
conceptual integrity typical of the artist. The works in Collective are
on a much smaller scale to Browne’s earlier work, reducing his previous
compositions down to key elements. This is an elegant exhibition well worth taking the time to
